How to Transfer Files to Your Kindle

Once you've converted your EPUB file to a Kindle-compatible format, you'll need to transfer it to your device. Here are the most common methods:

USB Transfer

USB Connection Method

  1. Connect Kindle to Computer
Use the USB cable that came with your Kindle to connect it to your computer.
  2. Open Device Storage
Your Kindle should appear as a storage device on your computer.
  3. Navigate to Documents Folder
Open the Kindle's storage and find the "Documents" folder.
  4. Copy Converted File
Drag and drop your converted .mobi or .azw3 file into the "Documents" folder.
  5. Safely Eject Kindle
Safely eject the Kindle from your computer before disconnecting.
The book should appear in your library after disconnecting. If it doesn't appear immediately, try restarting your Kindle.

Email Transfer

Send to Kindle Email Method

  1. Find Your Kindle Email
On your Kindle, go to Settings > Your Account > Send-to-Kindle Email.
  2. Approve Your Personal Email
Go to Amazon Content and Devices, then Preferences > Personal Document Settings, and add your email to "Approved Personal Document E-mail List".
  3. Send Email with Attachment
From your approved email address, send an email to your Kindle email address with the converted file as an attachment.
  4. Wait for Delivery
Make sure your Kindle is connected to Wi-Fi. The document will be delivered wirelessly.
Important: Amazon may charge a small fee for document delivery if you don't use Wi-Fi. Use the subject line "convert" if you want Amazon to convert your document to Kindle format.

Using Calibre for Device Management

Since you already have Calibre installed for conversions, you can also use it to manage your Kindle library and transfers.

  1. Add Book to Calibre
Open Calibre and click "Add books" to add your converted file to the Calibre library.
  2. Connect Kindle
Connect your Kindle to your computer with a USB cable.
  3. Send to Device
Select the book in Calibre and click "Send to device" and choose your Kindle.
  4. Eject Device
Click "Eject device" in Calibre when finished and disconnect the USB cable.
Advantage: Calibre can manage your metadata, covers, and even convert on-the-fly when sending to your device.
